Fastly is framing Model Context Protocol as a workload that benefits directly from edge placement. The important point is not just lower round-trip time; it is that stateless MCP lets any nearby point of presence answer discovery and tool calls while enforcing authentication, authorization, and body limits before traffic reaches downstream systems.

For agent builders, this is a useful reminder that the control plane for tools is becoming latency-sensitive infrastructure. If an agent makes dozens of tool calls in one reasoning loop, shaving latency from every call can matter as much as optimizing the model request itself.
